Mais uma piadinha!

O garotinho tinha acabado de iniciar sua vida escolar. No primeiro dia de aula, ao chegar em casa, sua mão lhe perguntou

– Billy, what did you learn today?
– I learned to write.
– Oh, really? What did you write?
– I don’t know. I haven’t learned to read yet.

Muito boba (silly) esta piadinha, né? Mas embora ela seja silly, você pode acabar aprendendo algumas coisas aí.

01) Veja que para fazer perguntas sobre o passado (algo que alguém fez) começamos com ‘did you…?’ (você…?). Veja alguns exemplos,

  • Did you work yesterday? (você trabalhou ontem?)
  • Did you study English last Saturday? (você estudou inglês sabádo passado?)
  • Did you travel last year? (você viajou ano passado?)
  • Did you go to the mall last night? (você foi ao shopping ontem a noite?)

02) A expressão “oh, really?” equivale ao nosso “é mesmo?“, “verdade?“, “sério?“, “mesmo?“. Aqui em Rondônia em alguns locais é comum alguém falar “do vera mesmo?“, “do rocha?“.

03) “I haven’t … yet” é usado quando você quer dizer que ainda não fez algo. No caso da piada, o Billy disse “I haven’t learned to read yet“, o que ele está dizendo é “eu ainda não aprendi a ler“. Exemplos,

  • I haven’t read Inglês na Ponta da Língua yet. (Eu ainda não li o livro Inglês na Ponta da Língua)
  • I haven’t seen Maria yet. (Eu ainda não vi a Maria)
  • I haven’t sent the e-mail yet. (Eu ainda não mandei o e-mail)

Às vezes é preciso prestar atenção em regras gramaticais.
