Aprenda Citações em Inglês

Muitas vezes quando estamos falando com alguém ou mesmo escrevendo algo sentimos a necessidade enorme de citarmos algo dito ou escrito por outra pessoa. Geralmente, a citação é de alguém famoso: um autor, um filósofo, um ator, uma atriz, uma pessoa influente em determinada área profissional, etc. Isso é legal! Afinal, é como se aquelas palavras resumissem algo que queremos dizer naquele momento.

Em inglês, a palavra “citação” é traduzida por “quote“. Há inúmeros websites que agregam citações de inúmeras personalidades. Algumas bem conhecidas do público em geral (Einstein, Gandhi, Marinly Monroe, Barack Obama, etc.), outras conhecidas apenas por profissionais de determinadas áreas (Michel Foucault, Theillard de Chardin, Paul Tillich,  François de La Rochefoucauld e outros). Mas, o que isso tem a ver com aprender inglês?

Por serem bem conhecidas, as citações podem ajudar você a aprender inglês. Afinal, elas possuem estruturas gramaticais, vocabulário específico (ou geral) e a grande maioria delas possui algum tipo de lição moral, verdade, crença, etc., que nos ajuda a comunicar algo de forma mais rápida. Além disso, muitas citações possuem também um peso cultural; pois, podem resumir algo dito por uma pessoa influente (ou não) em um situação mais do que adequada. Por isso, é sempre bom você ter algumas citações na ponta da língua e usá-las quando a oportunidade aparecer.

Imagine-se batendo um papo com alguém em inglês e você perceber que naquele momento cairia bem dizer algo como, “há mais mistérios entre o céu e a terra do que julga nossa vã filosofia“. O que você diria? Como será essa citação em inglês? Como Shakespeare colocou essas palavras na boca de Hamlet ao conversar com Horácio? A reposta é: “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Claro que ao fazer a citação em um diálogo, você pode manter o nome “Horatio” de fora.

Portanto, minha dica é a seguinte: aprenda algumas citações em inglês, não custa nada. Pode ser citações de livros, filmes, Bíblia e onde mais achar interessante. Ter um repertório à sua disposição ajuda muito na hora de falar algumas coisas. Abaixo seguem 10 citações em inglês que eu gosto bastante.
